About me
Ross Carlson is the GIS Coordinator for the consolidated city-county of Butte-Silver Bow. He studied GIS and Geography/Planning at the University of Montana and prior to joining BSB in 2023 spent over a decade at onX building ETL pipelines, scaling ArcGIS Enterprise in the Amazon and Google clouds, and teaching senior software engineers about spatial reference systems. As 1/5 counties in Montana who maintain their own parcel data then share updates up to monthly with the Montana State Library, it has been an uphill learning experience at BSB piecing together how to effectively perform updates to the parcel fabric whilst improving then maintaining high quality spatial data standards. Working in partnership with MSL, BSB has been systematically striving to improve both tabular as well as spatial parcel data quality and has built python based QAQC tools to rapidly identify data quality opportunities for improvement then enforce compliance once data quality standards have been met.
